Open-source learning platform on upcycling fashion design

CJD Frechen/ CJD Bonn

The CJD, which stands for ‘Christliches Jugenddorfwerk Deutschlands e. V.’ (Christian Association of Youth Villages), offers orientation and chances for the future to 155,000 youths and adults every year. At more than 150 different locations they receive support, care and training from 9,500 paid staff and many volunteers. The underlying principle is the Christian concept of the human being, based on the vision ‘Let no one fall by the wayside!’. As an ‘opportunity provider’ the CJD supports people with social, physical or mental disadvantages through its services and funding programmes. These include, for example, vocational preparation and training for youths with learning impairments, integration advice for migrant youths, work centres for people with disabilities or help for youths at risk – such as open prison sentences for juvenile offenders or follow-up care for former drug addicts. As an organisation supporting 50 schools across Germany – the CJD Christophorus schools – the CJD is also Germany’s largest private supporting organisation of schools. Moreover kindergartens and day care services with flexible opening hours and special support options are included in the services the CJD offers. Derived from the Christian concept of the human being, the CJD’s educational approach views the person in a holistic way, and is based on four key areas: sport and health education, musical education, religious education and political education. Through these key areas the body, spirit and soul are equally addressed and fostered.

CJD Frechen and CJD Bonn are part of CJD Germany, working closely together in the vocational training and social rehabilitation of youngsters and young adults in the region of southern North-Rhine Westphalia. Vocational training is offered in more than 20 different working fields, e.g. in gardening, painting, housekeeping, cooking, metalworking, carpentry, logistics, engineering, hair-dressing and sales.
